Gymnastics season wrap up

As spring draws near, the end of the gymnastics season is here. The season started with the addition of new head coach Mark Mophew, who took over and led the Trojans to a successful season. Their record this year was 142.2 which was exciting for them.  The team as a whole ended up placing second at sections and brought home hardware.

Ava Barsness, a freshman, also ended up going to state in the floor event. At the state meet she ended up placing 24th out of 47 gymnasts.

Ava’s favorite part of state was, “The support from all of my friends and teammates.”

Seeing Ava go to state was a season highlight, but there were others as well. The most memorable moment for Danielle Solheid, senior captain, was the Watertown-Mayer and Mound Westonka meet. Solheid said “I felt good pressure which made me work even harder that night.”

It was also a bittersweet night for the seniors because it was Senior Night. When Solheid was asked who she looks up to on the team she said, “Emmalynn Dickerson is who I look up too. She is a very consistent gymnast. She strives in all events, and even on bad days she has a smile on her face.”

As sad as the team is to see the seniors go, there is a lot to look forward to for them. The team hopes to continue building and working towards the future of Trojan gymnastics.
