Nordic ski season wrap up

Micah Anderson, Editor

The nordic ski season has come to an end! New Prague doesn’t have a nordic ski team of its own, but four New Prague students compete with the Prior Lake team. These students include senior Nora Rosemeier, sophomore Aidan Rosemeier, eighth-grader Bjorn Olson, and seventh-grader Tyler Rosemeier. They race for the  Prior Lake team and often score points for the team, but they still have opportunities to compete as individuals.

The New Prague students compete with the Prior Lake team until the sections race, as students from another school cannot compete for a different school. The New Prague skiers assume their own team and compete for their own school for the sections race.

Coached by Joseph Deutsch, the team had an impressive season with the boys team placing second in their section, advancing them to state, and the girls placing third. At the state competition, a couple of boys placed in the Top 20. The snow this season wasn’t the best quality, so the team traveled to Hyland Hills Ski Area to practice there.

One highlight this season was the team’s pasta parties before races. Prior Lake is always wanting to welcome more New Prague skiers and hopes to one day make a conjoined team where New Prague can race as its school. If you haven’t already, consider joining the nordic ski team. It’s a great way for all athletes to get a full-body workout and works in tandem with every sport!
