Fall sports covid style

This fall season has brought a sense of fear and anxiety to many New Prague Trojan athletes. Some sports have continued as scheduled, but some had apprehension when the state got to decide whether or not they would compete. No fall sports have been canceled, but a few were postponed. Boys soccer, girls soccer, boys cross country, girls cross country, girls swim and dive, and girls tennis started on August 17. Boys football and girls volleyball and cheer teams had their season postponed until September 28. As for now, girls’ volleyball will only be allowed two spectators per participant, as their games are hosted indoors. Football, however, will be able to host a capacity of 250 people with families getting priority seating. Seniors have the option of reserving a spot in the senior section outside the gates of the stadium for games.

Many of the sports have also had their senior night over the past weeks. “It was different than previous years,” senior captain of girls’ swim and dive Hailey Tupy stated. “We couldn’t have everyone there, but we still got to do senior speeches and had a senior slideshow.”

Indoor sports, like girl’s swim and dive, couldn’t have their friends and family present on senior night to support them, while outdoor sports had limited attendance to cheer on the seniors.
