Spread the “Spirit of Christmas” all year long

Ella Ettlin, Editor

In the wise words from the Vince Guaraldi Trio, “Christmas time is here, Happiness and cheer.” This lyric from “Christmas Time is Here,” made famous by a Charlie Brown Christmas, sums up my whole editorial. Christmas should be celebrated year-round.

Now, you may ask yourself, “Self, why would I want to celebrate Christmas year-round?” The Christmas season is the best season of the year. As I write this, it is December 1st, and I just feel like a whole new person. The decorations, music, movies, etc. just change my whole demeanor, and I know that other people feel changed as well. The excitement of opening up your advent calendar each day as a countdown and following along with FreeForm’s 25 Days of Christmas are activities I want to last all year round.

I think if 2020 has shown us anything, it is to enjoy the things in our lives that make us the happiest. The Christmas season makes all of us happy.

Now, I know what you are thinking, “Wouldn’t I get tired of celebrating the same thing year-round?” The answer is yes, but if you go back and look at what I have been repeating, the whole time is the Christmas Spirit. Even though I would love to constantly watch Christmas movies and repeat them, it would get old after a while.

I am arguing that the Christmas Spirit is something we should all hold in our hearts year-round. Something that commonly gets associated with the Christmas spirit is being generous. If you look on Facebook or in the newspaper, you constantly see fundraisers and clothing/food drives for people in need. Around the holidays, people give more and are extremely generous during this time. What if we were this generous all the time? Would the world look like a different place? I think so.

Another thing that commonly gets associated with the Christmas Spirit is people being more jolly. Embracing the warmth, kindness, and sweetness that the season brings could make our social society look completely different. Maybe we would not see so many complaints on Facebook. Or maybe there would be less bullying in school. I think this would happen.

In all seriousness, the Christmas season is such a special time of year, and I think that if we lived with a little more Christmas in our hearts year-round, we would all live much happier lives.

I wish a Merry Christmas, and Happy Holidays to all who celebrate! Enjoy time with your family and maybe even try one of those Hot Chocolate Bombs that have been all over Tik Tok! 🙂
