New Prague wrestling has ended another noteworthy season. The program sent 6 of 8 wrestlers to the MSHSL wrestling tournament and 1 to the Girls MSHSL girls tournament. Wrestlers Brady Westall (5th place) and Cole Hermann(4th place) placed at Sections, narrowly missing the State tournament. They were coached by Dan Wagner and assistants Nick Shoenecker, Aaron Shetka, and Ryan Doherty.

Junior Koy Buesgens became a 2x State Champion. Buesgens had an impressive season, including recording his 100th win. He is ranked No. 1 in Minnesota and No. 5 in the nation. He finished this year with a 20-5 tech fall to crown him champion once again.

The team had 3 State Runner-up finishers this season. Junior Joey Novak placed 1st in Section 2AA, sending him to State. Although missing part of the season due to injury, Novak picked up right where he left off. He dominated through the bracket until met with high-ranked Ramos, who gave him a close loss. Freshman Lawson Eller competed in his first State tournament. He did very well through the 106AA bracket and lost the Championship to Albert Lea’s Olson. Junior Colton Bornholdt cruised through the bracket and lost the Championship round in a close battle

Junior Evan Farley ended with a 4th place finish. He won his first two matches before losing in the semifinals. Farley then battled back in the Consolation bracket, losing the third place match.

Sophomore Destiney Lofton qualified for the first ever MSHSL girls wrestling tournament. She took 2nd place to punch her ticket to the tournament. Lofton placed 4th place and accomplished something that hasn’t been done before!
