Trojan wrestling takes second place in Class AA state tournament

The Trojan wrestlers took the mat in the Class AA championship match against 4-time state champs Simley at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 2 at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul. The Trojans fell to Simley 46-20 making Simely five-time state champs.

To get to the championship, the Trojans defeated Kasson-Mantorville with a score of 34-32 in the semifinal match at 1 p.m. after defeating Mora 47-20 in the quarterfinal match at the state tournament.

The #1 seeded Trojan wrestling team took first place at the 2AA section meet Saturday, February 18 defeating the #2 seed Watertown-Mayer to punch their ticket to the AA State Wrestling Meet Thursday, March 2 at the Xcel Energy Center. This is the fifth time the team has competed at the state tournament. (They also competed in 1992, 1993, 2013 and 2021.) The Trojans finished their regular season with a record of 32-2.

Six Trojan wrestlers will compete in the individual state competition Friday, March 3 and Saturday, March 4.

The team is led by Head Coach Dan Wagner (Section 2AA Head Coach of the Year) and Assistant Coaches Nick Schoenecker (Section 2AA Assistant Coach of the Year), Aaron Shetka, Brian Doherty, Griffin Parriott (volunteer) and Cameron Schmitz.
